My StudentsCare Story
As you may know, I'm an officer of the UT Austin StudentsCare chapter. Despite being a relatively new chapter, our members have already had very meaningful experiences spending time with long-term pediatric patients at UT Dell children's Hospital. The goal of the organization is to make children forget their hospital surroundings for a little while, reminding them that they're still kids. So when we go volunteer, we make sure to have fun! This includes making paper-mache volcanoes, watching movies or even just hanging out. This time spent with the kids is so meaningful. Not only do they get a chance to be distracted and relaxed, but this also gives parents a chance to leave their bedsides and take a little time for themselves as they know their kids are in safe hands. StudentsCare has become such an important and meaningful part of my college life and the brave kids that I have met through this program inspire me every day!
Through this experience, I've learned the value of compassionate care in healthcare. So many children and families are forced to spend holidays in a hospital setting. I want to give back to StudentsCare this holiday season so they can continue to grow and impact hospitalized children, families, and college students across the country. Donating any amount to StudentsCare would be the most meaningful gift you could give this holiday season.
