Sometimes Laughter is the Best Medicine

I have recently joined an organization called StudentsCare, in which every week I will have the opportunity to spend quality, therapeutic time with a child in the hospital as a StudentsCare Buddy (after all of the paperwork is done!(: ). I am so excited to go visit the kids. We will hang out, play games, and try to forget about the hospital surroundings for a little while. My presence will allow parents to take a much needed break to get a cup of coffee or a shower, knowing their child is happy and in good hands. I already know StudentsCare will become such an important and meaningful part of my college life. The brave kids that I will meet through this program will inspire me every day.

Through this experience, I am looking forward to learning the value of compassionate care in healthcare. So many children and families are forced to spend holidays in a hospital setting. I want to give back to StudentsCare this holiday season so they can continue to grow and impact hospitalized children, families, and college students like me across the country.
